Stallions to Kick off Youth Fights Autism Event

Hockey Fundraiser to Support Kids with Autism

Kalamazoo, MI – The Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research (GLC) will host the 10th annual Youth Hockey Fights for Kids with Autism event at Wings West Ice Arena on Saturday, February 12 in collaboration with the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) and the South Central High School Hockey League (SCHSHL).

The Stallion Hockey Club at Western Michigan University is joining the event this year and will kick off the event by hosting their final home game of the season against the Calvin University Knights on Friday night at 9:30 pm. The Stallions will wear special event jerseys and there will be a special pre-game ceremony and puck drop. The Stallions are also auctioning an Ultimate Fan Experience as part of the event - https://www.biddingowl.com/SCHSHL.

Over the past nine years, this event has raised over $71,000 to support Autism efforts. The money raised assists families with their out-of-pocket expenses accrued for the evidenced-based therapy recommended for their child(ren) diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder as well as critical program materials. Both are essential for the individuals to reach their full potential leading an independent and vibrant life.

Approximately 300 hockey players from kindergarten through college will be playing throughout the event to raise funds and increase autism acceptance in our community.

The Saturday games will kick off at 11:00am with four action-packed high school hockey games.

11:00am Kalamazoo United vs Eastside Stars

1:15 pm Portage Muskies vs Mid-Michigan Marauders

3:45 pm Kalamazoo Eagles vs Capital City Capitals

6:00 pm Mattawan Wildcats vs Jackson Lumen Christi Titans

In addition, the KOHA youth hockey program will be playing games on the second rink from 8am – 5:30pm.

You can support the event by participating in the silent auction by placing your bid for an item on https://www.biddingowl.com/SCHSHL or attending the games in person.

Event sponsors include DTE Energy, Central Reach, Consumers Energy, Wings West, Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA), South Central High School Hockey League (SCHSHL), and Kingscott Associates. Proceeds from the event will benefit youth served at the Great Lakes Center for Autism Treatment and Research.
